OXNARD, Calif. — In a scene different from previous years, Dak Prescott, the Dallas Cowboys’ star quarterback, concluded camp practices by strolling off the field with his girlfriend, Sarah Jane Ramos, who carried their 5-month-old daughter, MJ.
“I look forward to it,” Prescott shared. “Obviously, I talk about being present and how present I am in anything I do. When I’m on the field and I’m locked in, that’s where all my focus and energy goes. But the moment that whistle blows, that horn goes off and I get to see my family, MJ and SJ; it’s not a moment that I take for granted. I’m super blessed.
“Going from being so locked in to forgetting about football so fast is something that I’ve never done. That is the balance that I need. … Nine years into this thing, getting to do what I love, but just being able to add that component to it makes it all worth it. And I feel younger than I ever have, to be honest.”
Prescott’s lucrative current deal averages $40 million per season, a figure that was second only to Patrick Mahomes when it was signed in March 2021. Since then, 13 players have surpassed that figure, with the likes of Joe Burrow, Trevor Lawrence, and Jordan Love tied at $55 million per season.
Legendary former Cowboys quarterback Troy Aikman boldly predicts that Prescott will be the first to land a $60 million per season deal. However, he raised concerns about whether that contract would come from the Cowboys or another team.
“The longer this goes, the more I think he will be playing somewhere else,” Aikman speculated on “The Pat McAfee Show.” “If it continues to drag on and he plays great and then the Cowboys come in late to say, ‘Hey, now we want to pay you,’ I don’t know where his head will be at that point.”
Aikman made these remarks while discussing the success of Mahomes, a three-time Super Bowl champion, which ignited the conversation about Prescott’s future.
Amidst concerns of the Cowboys not bolstering their offensive weapons in the offseason, the potential connection between Prescott and Tolbert could elevate the team’s performance in Year 2 under head coach Mike McCarthy’s play-calling. As camp practices spill into the regular season, fans are left wondering if the team’s postseason aspirations will be fulfilled, especially after last year’s heartbreaking wild-card loss to the Green Bay Packers.
