It’s decision day in the NFL, folks, and the final rosters have been set. Teams had until 4 p.m. ET on Tuesday to cut down to 53 players, and the cuts were no doubt painful for many players looking to keep their football dreams alive.
For the Denver Broncos, there were no last-minute trades to save the day. Wide receiver Tim Patrick and running back Samaje Perine were both cut from the team.
Patrick, coming off of back-to-back season-ending injuries, was unable to secure a spot on the roster. Perine, despite a solid performance last season, found himself buried on the depth chart behind some stiff competition.
But it’s not all bad news for these players. According to ESPN, Patrick is set to join the Detroit Lions as a practice squad player, giving him another shot at making his mark in the league.
Meanwhile, Lewis Cine, the 2022 first-round pick out of Georgia, saw his time with the Minnesota Vikings come to an end. The safety was waived by the team on Tuesday, making him the second top pick from the Vikings’ 2022 draft class to be let go before the end of his rookie contract. It seems like the Vikings are not holding back when it comes to making roster changes.
In a league where roster spots are scarce and competition is fierce, cutdown day serves as a reminder of just how brutal the business of football can be. But for those lucky enough to make the cut, it’s a chance to live out their dreams on the field.
