Kliff Kingsbury remains the proud owner of “the house” that gained fame on social media during the 2020 NFL draft. Known for his exquisite taste and penchant for being “extra,” the Arizona Cardinals head coach has made a name for himself both on and off the field.
This Sunday’s game between the Washington Commanders and the Cardinals holds a special significance for Kingsbury, who is now in his fourth game as Washington’s offensive coordinator. The journey to this point has been a tumultuous one for Kingsbury, who at the age of 33, became the head coach of Texas Tech before eventually finding his way to the NFL.
After a brief stint as the offensive coordinator for Johnny Manziel at Texas A&M, Kingsbury was fired from Texas Tech in 2018. He then had a short tenure as the head coach of the Arizona Cardinals before being let go after a disappointing 4-13 season in 2022. Kingsbury then took some time away from the NFL, spending time in Thailand before returning to coach at USC. Now, he finds himself back in the NFL as Washington’s offensive coordinator, ready to prove himself once again.
Despite his rocky past in the NFL, Kingsbury remains grateful for the opportunities he has been given. When asked about his time in Arizona, Kingsbury expressed no bitterness, stating, “I love it out here. So, I will always be grateful to Michael (Bidwill) for giving that opportunity that he did. First fired college coach to ever get that opportunity.”
With two consecutive wins and a strong performance on “Monday Night Football,” Kingsbury is eager to show that he can lead a successful offensive operation in the NFL. His quarterback, Jayden Daniels, has been turning heads as he makes a run for Offensive Rookie of the Year. Kingsbury’s focus is now on building a strong foundation for the Commanders’ offense and growing from there.
As Kingsbury embarks on this new chapter in his coaching career, he remains confident and focused. He does not see his new role as something to prove, but rather as an opportunity to continue to grow and develop as a coach. With his experience installing an offense with a rookie quarterback like Kyler Murray in the past, Kingsbury is well-equipped to lead the Commanders to success with Daniels at the helm.
