In what can only be described as a shocking turn of events, Baltimore Ravens linebacker Kyle Van Noy expressed his deep disappointment in the medical staff of the Kansas City Chiefs, labeling their actions as “unprofessional.” This scathing criticism comes after Van Noy suffered an eye injury during the 2024 NFL season opener.
Van Noy didn’t hold back as he detailed his displeasure with the Chiefs staff during a recent episode of the “McCoy and Van Noy” podcast, which he co-hosts with former NFL All-Pro Gerald McCoy. The linebacker had to exit the game against the Chiefs due to an injury that was later diagnosed as a fractured orbital bone.
“I was disappointed in the way the training staff of the Chiefs handled the situation,” Van Noy stated. “They took an entire quarter to get down to talk to me in the locker room, which, to me, is unacceptable. What if I was trying to go back in the game? What if I was really, really hurt? Just the way it took time was super unprofessional to me.”
The two-time Super Bowl champion went on to express his surprise at the lack of urgency in attending to an injured player. He even mentioned the lackluster response of the doctor’s friend who came to see him, describing the scene as the person holding Styrofoam cups “like everything was good.”
Moreover, Van Noy pointed out the dismal “F” grade that Chiefs owner Clark Hunt received from the NFL Players Association after the 2023 season. This grade was awarded due to the poor quality of care players received from the training staff and the outdated facilities.
“I understand how Kansas City, the players, have given that training room an F because with my experience I would have probably, after that, gave them an F, too,” Van Noy emphasized.
On the other side, Ravens head coach John Harbaugh expressed his surprise at Van Noy’s revelations, as he had not been aware of the situation until listening to the linebacker’s podcast. Harbaugh added that he holds respect for all parties involved in the incident.
In conclusion, Van Noy’s scathing remarks have shed light on the importance of timely and professional medical care in the NFL, highlighting the need for teams to prioritize the health and well-being of their players above all else.
